OR choose ‘Conference 2012’ from the menu bar of the KLA website. From ‘Registration‘ at the top of the page, you will find links that take you into KLA’s online store to purchase the Conference.  Members must log in to receive member rates for the annual Conference.

Some tips for the registration process:

• This year we feature a special Friend, Trustee & Student rate, as well as a One Day Rate.
• The Friend, Trustee & Student rate is intended to encourage participation by members of the library community outside the profession.
• The One Day Rate is intended for guests, visitors, and those who can only attend Conference for a single day or less.
• The member rate is $110, non-member $150; Friend, Trustee & Student rate is $30, $50 non-member. The One Day Rate is $70 member, $85 non-member.
• Early Bird Registration ends on March 16, 2012. Rates go up after that, so please register now!
• If you are a KLA member but you do not remember your password, take advantage of the “Forgot your Password?” link to quickly receive an email prompting you to reset your password.
• If you are a KLA member but have not yet paid your annual dues, please take a moment to renew while shopping for Conference. We appreciate it!
• If you would like to join KLA while registering for Conference, you can purchase a membership in the online store and add it to your cart with all other Conference-related purchases. The member price for Conference will be correctly calculated at checkout.
• While in the online store, you will see the 2012 Conference followed by all the ticketed events. You must purchase the Conference in order to purchase a ticketed session. You will be guided to do this when you add a ticketed Conference event to your cart.
• Hotel sleeping rooms can be booked now at the special KLA Conference rate of $118/night, single or double occupancy, plus applicable taxes. Click on the dedicated link below to book your room at the Hyatt Regency Wichita:

If you ask anyone who knows me, they will tell you that I have a very strong connection to place. I live in Wichita, Kansas, about four blocks from where I grew up, in an old neighborhood called College Hill. From my house I can walk to my parents’ house, my sister’s house, the school I went to and where my kids go now, the pool, the sledding hill, and two bookstores!

Stephanie Gerding will be presenting an expanded version of her virtual presentation, at PLA in Philadelphia in Spring 2012.

Stephanie Hall was invited to be on a panel discussing Senior Services at ALA, in New Orleans in 2006. ALA held the distinction of being the first major conference held in New Orleans, after Hurricane Katrina.

KLA Conference 2012

The call is going out for program proposals for the 2012 KLA Conference to be held in Wichita April 11-13, 2012. Using the theme I GEEK KANSAS LIBRARIES, the conference again promises to be the place for Kansas Librarians to share, network, learn, and have a good time. You can be an important part in this conference by submitting a proposal for a program. So, Sections, Roundtables, Librarians and others, put your thinking cap on and send us a proposal.

We’re looking forward to seeing you in Wichita next spring. Put the date on your calendar. And send in those proposals.

Thursday evening, enjoy the Lazy T Ranch Adventure with dinner and a tour of a working Kansas ranch.

Friday, at the Holiday Inn at the Campus, our day kicks off with round table breakfast meetings and 8:00 a.m. and sessions presented by your colleagues across the state on a variety of relevant topics from 9:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

“Our Food and Our Land,” presented by Joyce Thierer, will be the highlight of our annual luncheon.

KLA adopts Geek the Library campaign for 2012 Wichita Conference:

I GEEK KANSAS LIBRARIES

As many of you know by now, GEEK THE LIBRARY is a high-profile public awareness campaign sponsored by OCLC, a nonprofit library cooperative, and by a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The campaign is dedicated to spreading the word about the vital role of public libraries and raising awareness about the funding issues many public libraries face.

The State Library of Kansas has co-sponsored this important initiative since December 2010, and many libraries throughout the state have rolled out their own GEEK THE LIBRARY advocacy campaigns in 2011.

The Kansas Library Association, representing over 500 public, school, academic and special librarians, as well as trustees and Friends, is eager to encourage local libraries to participate in this campaign, which will run through 2013.

KLA is proud to announce that it is the first state library association to adopt the GEEK campaign for its official 2012 Conference theme. The Conference will be held at the Hyatt Regency Wichita, April 11-13, 2012.
