Summary of NeedsEducation: An endowment of $1,500,000 to produce $75,000 annually ensuring quality librarianship in the state of Kansas.
- Annual leadership institute
- Continuing education for practicing library professionals
- Scholarships for MLS graduate studies
- Each of Kansas’s 105 counties will be eligible to receive annual funding for:
- library staff development
- scholarships for formal learning opportunities
- library education and/or internships in libraries
- Author/speaker of national stature at annual Tri-Conference
Promotion: An endowment of $2,000,000 to produce $100,000 annually of the value of all types of libraries
- Kansas Library Month
- Collaborative enrichment activities on issues of significance with other groups, e.g. SmartStart
- Public relations initiatives through the media
- Encourage careers in the library profession
- Assist local libraries promoting their value in their community
- Professional staff to direct and manage the above activities
Recognition: An endowment of $1,000,000 to produce $50,000 annually
- Awards program for outstanding librarians and libraries outstanding library professionals who have significantly moved libraries in Kansas into the future
- Individuals and libraries – best practices and unique examples
General Endowment: An endowment of $500,000 to produce $25,000 annually ensuring general operations annually
- Legal expertise on retainer with understanding of: copyright, human resources and personnel law, media issues, licensing and agreements, other Special projects of benefit to the membership as needed
- Advocacy for Kansas libraries
- Briefing and alerts on important library issues
- Chapter relations and representation in the American Library Association
- Publications and web services highlighting library news and issues
